No, wait! The defining characteristic of FutureHuman!™ is superlative revision skills! And giant lizard heads that can compel the truth.
See, now...this is what comes of blogging with Farscape on the Dumpster TV. There have already been two references in this post, and it's barely gotten started.
Not that there's going to be much to this post. Some folks can blog and work on their projects, but I need eight hours of sleep, and eight hours in a cubicle to pay the bills, which leaves eight hours to write, blog, make and eat dinner, pester the cat, and entertain my brain and other bits with Doc Johnson products. Yes, I make a distinction between writing and blogging. They just ain't the same thang, dahlings, and the former has greater priority over the latter.
So why do it? Well, my stat monkeys tell me that there are enough people who regularly stop by my little solipsistic U-bend in the IntraTubeZ to make it worthwhile. You either think I've got something interesting to say or you're convinced you're witnessing the beginnings of a massacre at Denny's. Either way: can't disappoint. Wouldn't be prudent.
I really thought I was going to be able to crank up the output once I hired someone to kick my ass, but I'm rapidly settling into one chapter every two weeks, whether it's a brand-new chapter or a revised chapter. "Revision," though, involves a lot of work for me, essentially reducing to "throw out every second and third word."
The words I replace them with are pretty good, though. I seem to be working my way towards my own process, which seems to be a revise-as-you-go kind of thing. I spent this evening working and reworking about 700 words. Perhaps 200 of them date from a chapter draft I wrote last year. Based on the length of my existing chapters, that means if I work on writing and revising 500 words a day I'll have a shiny new chapter with chrome trim and a bitching stereo by Friday.
And that's OK. It'd be nice to crank out those mythical two chapters a week, but it all reduces to respecting the process that I'm developing within the bounds of my own life.
So, uh...I'm off to respect the process, dig?

Farscape? I didn't think it was possible for me to love you more than I already did. If you like Francis Dunnery and anchovies I might have to leave my husband and head west - just for a visit, of course, I really like my husband.
Oh yes. I have all the Farscape, ever. All mine, for me.
I had no idea who Francis was, but when I wiki'd him, I discovered that he was a founding member of It Bites. I saw them at the Spectrum in Philadelphia when they were opening for Jethro Tull on their Rock Island tour. They played this one tune, the chorus of which has been stuck in my head for twenty years (despite--or perhaps because of--the recreational pharmaceuticals I ingested for the show). Francis, it turns out, was the frontman then, and I remember his wacky puppet-like posturing on stage wearing (I think, could be the acid) harlequin gear. For some reason, none of their stuff was on Amazon...but I looked again just now and there's all these It Bites albums. So now I'm going to try and find that song.
(And yeah, I do puts the fishes on the pizza when I can, which isn't often.)
(Which I might do)
(right now)
(fetch me...the...phoooone...)
Francis has played two concerts in my living room. I adore the man! Do check out his newer stuff. I believe there was something of an It Bites resurgence in the UK this past year, which would explain the availability of the albums now.
Well, I might just have to visit for a Farscape marathon with fishy pizza.
I've been a big fan for years, have seen him perform a number of times. We found out he was doing house concerts and set one up. The rest, as they say,...
Fab! Recommend for me, say, your top two fav'ritt Francis albums? (The It Bites I've got helped me crack through a stuck bit with the chapter this morning, so I'm keen to pursue this vein of new-to-me tunage).
Also, SB is a fine place to visit, fishy Farscape or no, especially now that they've doled out the extra daylight for this year--do give us a holler if you're on this side of the map.
Top two would be "Tall Blonde Helicopter" and "Man". Enjoy!
